Privateer Shuttle Update for Rounds 1-3

Three rounds into the Amp’d Mobile AMA Supercross series, MXSponsor.com’s Privateer Shuttle is making noise in the industry. The Privateer Shuttle is a grassroots program put together by MXSponsor.com to help privateers travel, compete and get exposure in the pro circuits. Nearly 200 riders responded to MXSponsor’s open call for Supercross privateers who didn’t have a ride for 2006. MXsponsor settled on 5 deserving privateers for the West Coast series: James Marshall, Willy Browning, Greg Crater, Chris Welsh and Ty Morrow.

MXSponsor.com’s Privateer Shuttle rider James Marshall has been turning heads as he has consistently been one of the fastest, non-seeded riders during practice. Only 3 events into the series, Marshall is really making a name for himself. During the Semi #1 race at Anaheim 1, Marshall pulled the holeshot and led the pack in front a sold out crowd of 46,000 screaming fans. Marshall was leading Ryan Clark and Mike LaRocco until he went down in the whoops section ending his night.

James Marshall also drew attention when he ran second place in the LCQ at Anaheim 2 before getting passed by Jeff Gibson who would go on to win the LCQ. Marshall was awarded the $750 Racer X Gas card for his 3rd place finish ahead of some prominent factory riders such as Tim Ferry, Kyle Lewis and Keith Johnson.

“It’s amazing to see what these guys do with the little support that they get,” says Rich Maychrich, founder of MXSponsor.com, “None of these riders have the backing of a factory rider, but they sure are racing like they do.” The Privateer Shuttle team has been posting some of the fastest lap times in unseeded practice, and despite the severe disadvantage that privateers have, they have been consistently making the evening program in a field of factory-backed riders.

So far, James Marshall has qualified for all three evening programs, Greg Crater and Willy Browning have both qualified for two events, and Ty Morrow, who qualified in Phoenix. Ty Morrow and Chris Welsh have both been plagued with a string of bad luck, and are looking forward to the race this weekend in San Francisco.

In between the series events, the riders have been training hard both on and off the track. The Privateer Shuttle videographer, Matt Wozney (MotoXposure), has been documenting the lives of these 5 privateers. Before Anaheim 2, he caught James Marshall and Ty Morrow last week practicing at a secret SX test track in SoCal. Click here to see their 2 minute video. Wozney also captured some great footage of Browning riding out at Beaumont before A1. Click here to see the 40 second video.

“We are excited about the potential that lies in each of our guys,” says Rich Maychrich, “We hope the Privateer Shuttle supports our riders and gives them the extra edge that will lead to their future success.”
